Courteney Cox è nata a Birmingham, in Alabama. E' la più
giovane di quattro fratelli. Aveva una grande ammirazione per il
padre e un rapporto di amicizia con la madre. Quando Courteney
aveva 10 anni i suoi genitori divorziarono dopo 19 anni di
matrimonio, e lei restò con la madre, sperando sempre che il
padre, che considerava la persona più simpatica del mondo,
tornasse insieme alla famiglia. I due genitori si sono entrambi
risposati e ora Courteney considera la madre come la sua migliore
amica. Nel 1982 Courteney si è diplomata ed è andata a studiare
architettura a Wshington, ma voleva diventare una modella e
intraprese una piccola parte in "As the World Turns".
Il suo successo crebbe costantemente e nel 1985 compare in "Misfits
of Science" e in "Family Ties" nel
ruolo di Lauren. La sua carriera ebbe un periodo di stasi fino al
1994, quando recitò con Jim Carrey in "Ace Ventura: Pet
Detective". Arrivò poi nel cast di Friends nel ruolo
di Monica, che inizialmente era stato pensato per la collega
Jennifer Aniston. Tra i suoi film più noti ricordiamo "Scream",
nel ruolo di Gale Weathers.
